Commissioner to investigate complaints against Facebook

The Data Protection Commissioner has said it is to investigate complaints its received about the social networking site Facebook.

The Data Protection Commissioner has said it is to investigate complaints its received about the social networking site Facebook.

Some of the complaints lodged include the allegations that the "Like" button creates data that can be used to track users all over the internet.

There are also complaints that tags can be applied without the consent of the user and that pokes, posts, pictures and messages can still be seen after they are deleted.

The office of the Data Commissioner will examine all of Facebook's activities outside the US and Canada and any decision it makes could have implications for millions of users worldwide.
