Ireland claimed an emphatic six-wicket victory over Uganda to improve their record to three wins from three matches in Group A of the ICC World Cup qualifying tournament.

William Porterfield’s team have matches against Canada and Namibia to come in the group stage, however the Super 8 stage beckons and they won today with 19 overs to spare in Krugersdorp.

Uganda began the match poorly and lost openers Roger Mukasa and Arthur Kyobe cheaply to be 11 for two.

They had two major batting contributions, with Joel Olwenyi reaching 40 and captain Junior Kwebiha contributing 51, but the rest of their line-up failed to trouble the Scots.

Off-spinner Andrew White wiped out the Uganda tail, taking four wickets for 22 runs in 10 overs, as Uganda were dismissed for 155.

Porterfield, who made a century against Scotland earlier in the week, and opening partner Gary Wilson then put on 68 for the first Ireland wicket, carrying them almost halfway to their victory target.

Porterfield fell for a rapid 44, but Wilson completed a half-century, eventually losing his wicket for 61.

Eoin Morgan and Niall O’Brien chipped in double-figure scores as Ireland preserved their perfect record.
