Environment Minister Dick Roche will face questions about Ireland's electoral register when he appears before a committee of TDs and Senators today.

The Oireachtas Environment Committee is expected to press Mr Roche to reveal how he intends to update the register ahead of the next General Election.

Up to 800,000 names are believed to be wrongly included on the register nationwide due to the lack of an overhaul for several years.

Opposition parties have been calling for census data or PPS numbers to be used to compile a new voter list, but these moves have so far been resisted by the Government.
