Groups representing the elderly hit out at the Government
Organisations for the elderly have accused the Government of neglecting Ireland's senior citizens.
The criticism comes as International Day for Older People is celebrated around the world.
Twelve per cent of Ireland's population is over sixty-five, by 2050 one in four Irish people will be pensioners or older.
Age Action Ireland claims poverty and isolation remain major problems for older people.
Spokesman Paul Murray says it's a terrible pity that older people are not included or listened to. He says it is timely warning to politicians, who will ignore the elderly at their peril.
