Two prison officers were reportedly rushed to hospital yesterday afternoon after they were assaulted by an inmate at Cloverhill Prison in Dublin.

Reports this morning said the inmate slammed a plastic kettle into the face of a prison officer who refused to allow him to cross from one landing to another.

The reports said fellow officers came to their colleague's aid, but they too were attacked by the inmate.

One prisoner officer reportedly suffered an eye injury in the assault, while the other reportedly has a broken nose, and cuts to his face and head.

This morning's reports said pieces of plastic from the kettle had to be removed from the heads of the injured officers.
