Govt considers tax rises and cuts
It has been reported by the Sunday Business Post that the Government is considering plans to renege on pre-election promises not to hike income tax or cut basic social welfare rates.
The commitments were central to the Coalition's first budget last year.
But as efforts to agree on December's €3.5bn budget get underway, there is concern Fine Gael and Labour are considering softening their approach in both areas.
