The Minister for Justice Alan Shatter will meet the Garda Commissioner this week to discuss a number of issues, including public safety and armed robberies.
It follows a number of stabbings at a concert in the Phoenix Park in Dublin earlier this month and six armed robberies in the past week.
In light of these events, Fianna Fáil has called for a special task force to tackle violent crime in Dublin, whilst Sinn Féin wants the Garda recruitment embargo to be lifted.
In a statement this morning, Minister Shatter said the allocation of resources, including personnel, is a matter for the Commissioner, Martin Callinan, and he has no direct function in the matter.
He also said "robust" policing measures are in place to deal with public order and street crime in Dublin.
