The Minister for the Environment Dick Roche has been accused of ignoring a serious odour problem in Ringsend.

The Local Environment Group claims that they have appealed to the Department of the Environment to find a solution to the smells emanating from a sewerage treatment plant for the past two years.

Chairman of the group Damien Cassidy said that the locals are being ignored and are at their wits’ end: “Our peace and tranquillity has been destroyed for the last three years in the interests of a plant that should never have been built. It was always over capacitated with sewerage from 1.5 million people being pumped in here.

“A local business had to close down recently and it has reached the stage of being absolutely ludicrous. The sooner that plant is reduced in size and the smell eliminated the better."
