Hay distribution to address fodder crisis begins

The first consignments of hay shipped in from France to address the fodder crisis are being distributed today to farmers.

Two hundred thousand tonnes of French hay is being trucked around the country, with the first shipment being given out in Limerick.

The consignment will relieve farmers who have been experiencing a major shortage of feed for animals because of poor growing conditions.

Hay is also en route to other western counties this afternoon, including Kerry, Donegal, Galway and Roscommon.
