Count underway for Seanad's Labour panel
Counting is underway for the Seanad's Labour panel with two Sinn Féin candidates already across the line, .
The count continues tonight however, both Maire Devine and Paul Gavan have won the first two seats. Sinn Féin have now topped the poll in all of the three panels which have been counted so far.
Sinn Féin candidates Rose Conway-Walsh and Trevor Ó Clochartaigh took the first two seats on the Agricultural panel this morning.
It was a historic day for the Green Party who claimed their first seat in the Upper House after Grace O’Sullivan was elected through the vocational panel system.
Previous Green Party Senators have all come through Taoiseach’s nominees or by-elections.
Fianna Fáil's Denis O'Donovan, Briain Ó Domhnaill and Paul Daly; Independent Victor Boyhan and Fine Gael's Paddy Burke, Tim Lombard and Maria Byrne; Labour’s Denis Landy were also elected to the 11-seat Agriculture panel.
Those elected to the Cultural and Educational panel, which was counted yesterday, are Sinn Féin’s Fintan Warfield, former Fine Gael TDs Gabrielle McFadden and Kieran O'Donnell as well as Fianna Fáil's Lorraine Clifford-Lee and Keith Swanick.
