The Irish consulate in New York is currently trying to establish if any Irish citizens were on board the American Airlines flight which crashed in New York today.

The Irish consulate in New York is currently trying to establish if any Irish citizens were on board the American Airlines flight which crashed in New York today.

The plane came down in Queens, which has a large Irish and Irish-American population, and the consulate is also trying to determine if any Irish people may have been hurt on the ground.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, and Foreign Minister Brian Cowen have both expressed their shock and sympathy following the crash.
