Hard to see how Bertie can remain in party: FF spokesman on reform

Fianna Fáil's officer board is meeting around now to discuss the findings of the Mahon Report.

Speculation is rife that the former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern may be expelled from the party.

The party is to hold a press conference tomorrow to announce how they plan to deal with the Tribunal's findings.

Senator and party spokesperson on public expenditure and reform Thomas Byrne said it was hard to see how Bertie Ahern could remain a party member, after today's findings.

"The findings are devastating for him...and for me personally because I would have given him the benefit of the doubt. That has all come crashing down now with the findings of the tribunal which we must all accept, and which we do accept," he said.
