Irish Rail rejects British survey results

Iarnród Eireann has dismissed reports that rail services in Ireland are the fourth most expensive in the 12-nation euro-zone.

Iarnród Eireann has dismissed reports that rail services in Ireland are the fourth most expensive in the 12-nation euro-zone.

A British survey claimed that a €14 fare would get a passenger 48 miles in Ireland, compared to 184 miles in Italy.

However, an Iarnrod Eireann spokesman said a survey it conducted after the euro changeover found that only Greece was consistently cheaper than Ireland.
