Gardaí in Cork have today expressed concern about an ongoing feud between two families after a large quantity of weapons was seized.
Sixteen weapons including slash hooks and pickaxes were uncovered during a major operation in Charleville this morning, targeting the illegal sale of scrap metal.
Gardaí have been investigating an ongoing row between two families which flared up again at the weekend.
Windows in one house were broken on Thursday night while an ornamental horse's head was thrown through the window of another last night.
"Mainly the operation this morning was to target the unlawful collection of scrap metal without a waste permit," Superintendent Pat McCarthy told Cork's Red FM.
"During that search there we uncovered an awful lot of implements which probably could be used in this feud - hatchets and baseball bats with nails driven into them - weapons that could be used in the course of a row."
