Scary Spice in a spin for US dancing show
Scary Spice Mel B will feature on the US TV show Dancing with the Stars next month, the ABC network confirmed today.
Melanie Brown will make her ballroom dancing debut alongside fellow Briton Jane Seymour.
Earlier this year, Briton Heather Mills, the 39-year-old estranged wife of Sir Paul McCartney, took part in the US show which is based on Strictly Come Dancing.
The new series will begin in the US on September 24 and the first week’s competition will feature a showdown between the six men and six women, an ABC spokesman said.
Mel B will be partnered with Maksim Chmerkovskiy while Seymour will be with Tony Dovolani. Both the professional dancers are returning for their fourth season.
In June, Mel B secretly married boyfriend Stephen Belafonte in Las Vegas following the 32-year-old singer’s sudden and bitter split with Hollywood comedian Eddie Murphy.
The pair married at the Special Memory Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on June 6.
The fiery singer, who took legal action against Murphy to establish he was the father of their four-month-old daughter Angel Iris, is planning a bigger wedding with Belafonte, 32, later in the year.
Contestants on Dancing with the Stars are not experts, but become the student and performing partner of a professional dancer throughout the 10-week season.
Three judges rate each couple’s ballroom and Latin dance skills while viewers weigh in by phone and internet.
The combined tallies determine which couple is eliminated each week.
The show’s format has spread to 29 countries, including Poland, India, Chile and Germany, and this is the fifth season of the American version.
