Higgins won't contest presidential race

Labour will not contest the Presidential election, the party's national executive has decided this evening.

Labour will not contest the Presidential election.

The national executive has decided by 13 votes to 12 that it will not enter Michael D Higgins into the race.

Labour Leader Pat Rabbitte has said at this stage, his party has received no formal approaches from either Eamon Ryan of the Greens or Dana Rosemary Scallon.
