Limerick courts to host murder trials

The Central Criminal Court is to begin hearing murder trials in Limerick because of the excessive number of homicide cases in the city.

The Central Criminal Court is to begin hearing murder trials in Limerick because of the number of homicide cases in the city.

Justice Paul Carney announced the move this morning, saying he hoped to have murder cases fixed for hearing 10 weeks after the date of arrest.

At present, cases can take months and often years to come to trial in Dublin, where all murder trials are currently heard.
