St. Patrick’s Athletic 2 Cliftonville 0 (Cliftonville won 3-2 on aggregate)

Late goals in each half were not enough as St. Patrick’s Athletic, last year’s beaten finalists, bowed out of the Setanta Sports Cup at Richmond Park tonight.

Trailing 3-0 from the first leg at Solitude, St. Pat’s had to start well, but missed several chances before finally taking the lead on 41 minutes.

Anot Murphy’s long throw was flicked on and Dave Mulcahy hooked home at the far post.

The home side struggled to create chances until late on in the second half, getting their second goal on 80 minutes.

Stephen Bradley and Derek Pender combined on the right, and when the cross wasn’t cleared David McMillan shot home.

George McMullan, Cliftonville’s two-goal hero from the first leg, made a dramatic goal-line clearance from Derek Doyle on 88 minutes to prevent extra-time.
