Elton John: I won't desert Ukrainian orphans

Elton John has vowed to continue to provide emotional and financial support for two Ukrainian orphans even though he now has his own child.

The rock legend told OK! Magazine he and his civil partner David Furnish would never give up on two-year-old Lev and his brother Artyom, four.

The children stole the hearts of the couple when they visited an orphanage in 2009 but their plans to adopt were reportedly thwarted by Ukrainian laws.

Elton and Furnish finally fulfilled their dreams of having a child when their son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born via a surrogate on Christmas Day.

Elton told the magazine the tot had an easy birth and “shot out like a rocket”.

And he told of how impossible it was to express his joy at the arrival of the little boy.

“There just aren’t proper words to describe that feeling,” he said. “It’s indescribable. It was just...We have a son.”

But he promised not to spoil the infant by showering him with money.

“I’m ready to have a child and lavish my love on our son and not spoil him,” he said.

Baby Zachary is Elton’s first child with Furnish. The couple’s civil partnership was formalised in 2005.
