Almost 60% of us want a general election this year, according to a new poll.
The survey, conducted by Red C for The Sun newspaper, found that Brian Cowen still ranks lowest among party heads to lead the country.
Red C carried out a survey of 1,000 people on behalf of the Irish Sun newspaper at the end of July.
When asked if they wanted a General Election before the end of 2010, almost six in 10 respondents said yes.
That number rises to 69pc of people in the 25-34 age group, those hardest hit by the recent surge in unemployment.
Just 18% of voters said Fianna Fáil leader Brian Cowen would make the best Taoiseach after the next election, 27% opted for Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny and one in three preferred Labour leader Eamon Gilmore
A significant 22% of those polled, however, did not want any of the three main party leaders as the next Taoiseach, showing that growing numbers of voters are increasingly dissatisfied with the Irish political system.
Of the people who do want an election this year, only 8% of them support Brian Cowen as best Taoiseach.
