The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said he is planning to have a "forthright discussion" with insurance providers over the refusal of companies to insure homeowners who have been flooded.
He wants them to relax their rules in areas that now have flood defence schemes.
Kenny's meeting insurance industry reps in Dublin today.
The Taoiseach believes their approach is sometimes out of step with advances on the ground.
“Well I think we need to have a very forthright discussion with the insurance companies,” said the Taoiseach
“There’s a difference between towns or urban areas where defence against flood has been put in place and has been seen to work, as in Fermoy and in Clonmel and in other places.”
