A 29-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating a shooting at a pub.

A number of shots were fired at the front door of Fibber Magee’s bar in Blackstaff Square, Belfast.

Nobody was injured during the attack which took place at about 1am yesterday.

A PSNI spokesman said two houses in the Belfast area had been searched and a number of items removed for forensic examination.

A popular venue for traditional music, Fibber Magee’s is attached to Robinsons, another landmark Belfast pub.

It is believed that a man was refused entry to the pub at about 12.30am and then made a threatening gesture to the doorman, implying that he would come back and shoot him, police said.

Officers believe about three shots were later fired.

Alliance South Belfast MLA Anna Lo said: “I am shocked and disgusted at this very sinister incident. The serious nature of this attack and the fact that a firearm was used shows the intent of the perpetrator.”
