Cancer-care expert Keane to start job today

The man appointed to sort out problems with Ireland's cancer services is due to begin his new job this morning.

The man appointed to sort out problems with Ireland's cancer services is due to begin his new job this morning.

Professor Tom Keane, who headed the department of radiation oncology at the University of British Columbia in Canada, is Ireland's first-ever Director of Cancer Control.

His job is to reorganise cancer services and to concentrate them in eight centres of excellence.

Prof Keane has overseen a similar overhaul of services in Canada.
