Five people have been injured in Laois after four armed men burst into their home and assaulted them.

Five people have been injured in Laois after four armed men burst into their home and assaulted them.

The masked raiders, who had sledgehammers and screwdrivers, entered the home in Shaen, Portlaoise just before 10pm last night.

They stole jewellery and cash before fleeing the scene on foot.

Two males and three females were in the house at the time and one of them has been taken to hospital.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
