Barack Obama is seeking to assure Canada, the largest US trading partner, that he has no interest in disturbing the two countries’ economic relationship.
In his first foreign trip as president, Mr Obama will meet Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper and Canada’s opposition leader in Ottawa, the Canadian capital.
Mr Obama plans to underscore that the US is not pulling back from trade even as it enforces new “Buy American” language and reconsiders the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement.
