McGinley had led by two at the halfway stage.

The tournament was really a two-horse race during Sunday's play and only when McGinley birdied the long 11th hole to close the gap to one stroke did it look possibloe that he would hold on to the title.

However, Smyth immediately answered with a 30-feet birdie putt on the 12th green and he finally closed out the holder with a birdie-birdie finish.
