US military: Fighter pilot's body found

The US military said today it found the body of an American pilot while searching for two Marine fighter jets that went missing while flying in support of operations in Iraq.

The brief statement did not say whether either of the jets had been found or where the body had been recovered.

The two Marine F/A-18 Hornets from the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier went missing at 7.10pm Irish time yesterday, the military said.

There were no initial indications of hostile fire in the area at the time.

Navy officials at the Pentagon did not release any information beyond the military statement.
