This afternoon’s meeting at Pontefract has been given the go-ahead.

Although the Yorkshire venue endured 15 millimetres of overnight rain, the track was passed fit for racing following an early-morning precautionary inspection.

A course spokesman said: “We are fine as long as there are no more prolonged or heavy outbreaks of rain.

“If that were the case, we may need to inspect again.

“The forecast this morning is for dry conditions with showers in the afternoon, which should not be a problem.

“The going is soft, heavy in places.”
