One third of calls to Childline not answered

Nearly five million children contacted Childline over the last 25 years but a third of them did not have their calls answered.

They are marking their anniversary by launching a new major redevelopment plan which will see them offering more help online.

However, they are looking for 25 companies to donate €25,000 to help get the plan off the ground.

Director of Services at the ISPCC Caroline O’Sullivan said that developing an online service means they can help more children.

"The fabulous thing about online service is that we can engage four or five children at the same time, phone service you can only engage one child at a time," she said.

"There is a way forward for us we know the way forward we just need the support of the public and corporates."
