A 31-year-old nurse whose body was found in apartment in Dublin was stabbed a number of times, a court was told today.
Brian McBarron, a 25-year-old Co Wicklow man, appeared at Dublin District Court charged with the murder of Sara Neligan whose body was found in an apartment in Pearse Street.
McBarron, originally from Arklow but living at an address at the same apartment complex, was arrested on Thursday night by gardaí.
Ms Neligan’s body was discovered at the Wintergarden apartment complex after friends alerted the Gardaí they had not seen her for a number of days.
She was stabbed a number of times.
The victim was the daughter of renowned heart surgeon Dr Maurice Neligan and his wife, Pat.
Detective Sergeant Brian Duffy told the court this morning that when McBarron was charged with Ms Neligan’s murder he replied “I am sorry for what I have done”.
Judge John Coughlan granted an application by the defence solicitor to have McMahon assessed medically and psychologically.
No application for bail was made.
He was remanded to appear at Clover Hill District Court next Friday.
