Taoiseach returns from Kerry to deal with peace crisis

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has cut short his holidays in Kerry to deal with the current crisis facing the Northern peace process.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has cut short his holidays in Kerry to deal with the current crisis facing the Northern peace process.

Mr Ahern will meet with SDLP leader John Hume at government buildings tomorrow to discuss the latest series of setbacks to the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.

The two men will discuss the British Government’s decision to suspend the democratically-elected Northern Assembly for 24 hours on Saturday and the IRA’s subsequent decision to withdraw its proposed method of disarmament.

The arrest of three suspected Provisional IRA members in Colombia will also be on the agenda.
