Reagan statue the victim of Simpsons-style vandalism

Polish police are searching for whoever severed an arm from a statue of former president Ronald Reagan that was erected last year.

The bronze statue in a Baltic seaside park in Gdansk is a larger-than-life rendering of the late US president and the Polish-born Pope John Paul II.

It honours Mr Reagan’s support for Poland’s struggle to end communism.

The damage was estimated at more than 100,000 zlotys (€23,687). Police are also looking for the arm.

The incident is reminiscent of a scene in ‘The Telltale Head’, an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ where Bart sawed the head of a statue of town founder Jebediah Springfield.
