Venables stays - for now

Terry Venables is still Leeds manager, for the time being, despite the club's plc board ignoring his pleas not to sell Jonathan Woodgate to Newcastle.

Terry Venables is still Leeds manager, for the time being, despite the club's plc board ignoring his pleas not to sell Jonathan Woodgate to Newcastle.

But Venables has taken the unprecedented step of switching his Friday press conference from the club's Thorp Arch training ground to Elland Road, with a 12.45pm start.

In the wake of Leeds agreeing a £9million fee for Woodgate, Venables was asked on Thursday whether he would be staying, and replied: "There's a press conference tomorrow."

Venables categorically stated last week he would consider his future if Woodgate was allowed to leave.
