Ex-nurse Titmuss helps hit-and-run victim

Former nurse Abi Titmuss sprang into action today after a cyclist was knocked over in a hit-and-run.

Former nurse Abi Titmuss sprang into action today after a cyclist was knocked over in a hit-and-run.

She was driving to the gym in central London when she spotted the 46-year-old man lying on the pavement.

Shaken former accident and emergency nurse Abi, 30, said: “No one was there. Either people had been ignoring it or it had just happened.

“He was sprawled on the pavement. His arms were tangled and he wasn’t moving.

“I pulled into a double yellow line and ran to him and did the ABC, checking airways, breathing and circulation. It all just kicked in.”

Abi, whose career as a nurse ended two-and-a-half years ago after her relationship with TV presenter John Leslie put her in the limelight, said: “The first thing I did was ask him his name and tell him mine.

“I didn’t say ‘I’m Abi Titmuss’, just ‘I’m Abi’. I told him ‘I’m a nurse’. I wasn’t going to say ‘I’m a former nurse’.

“He was breathing, conscious, and just about talking to me. He said he had been knocked over by a lorry.

“I just tried to put his bag under his head to make him more comfortable. I put a hand on his chest to comfort him and called the ambulance and told them his age and where he was.

“I didn’t want to move him too much in case he broke something. I hope that I managed to help the guy and I’d like to know that he was okay.”
