Motorsport Ireland has said that it is carrying out a full review of yesterday's crash during a rally in Cavan which claimed the lives of two people.
Caroline Cleary, 29, from Cork and Joe Lane, a photographer in his 50s from Galway, died at the scene after a Ford Escort competing in the race plunged through a fence into a crowd of spectators.
Seven other people, including a driver and co-driver, were injured in the collision, which took place about a mile outside Bailieborough.
Garda forensic teams are examining the scene and post mortems on the victims will be carried out today at Navan General Hospital.
Chief Exective of Motorsport Ireland Alex Sinclair said that safety is a key priority at car rallies.
"We'll certainly look at every single strand of what has occurred here with the hope that we will learn something from it in terms of everybody's safety," he said.
"Already 90% of our resources go into safety at all events, and when something like this happens it's such as shock, it's so out of the blue."
