Mandla Mandela is to become a member of parliament for the African National Congress after elections next month.
Mr Mandela is a businessman with ties to presidential candidate Jacob Zuma, who faces corruption charges.
His candidacy is expected to give the ANC a boost ahead of the April 22 poll.
