A mother of two who was killed when her car hit a road sign at a filling station last weekend has been named as Risikat Oyebanji, a Nigerian national who was living in Tralee, Co Kerry.

The deceased's husband and two children were also injured in the horror crash.

The fatal collision occurred on the N69, at Applegreen filling station, Coolanoran, Rathkeale, Co Limerick at approximately 11.30pm last Saturday night.

Ms Oyebanji, 40, was driving the car at the time of the incident and no other vehicle was involved.

The deceased's husband who was a front seat passenger in the car, and their two children who were in the rear seats, were taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Sergeant Justin McCarthy, Henry Street garda station, said: "An Garda Síochána wish to extend their sympathy to the family of Ms Oybebanji, who died tragically in this traffic accident."

"It's believed the family were travelling from Dublin to Kerry at the time of the accident," he added.

"It is also a timely reminder about Road Safety."

"There were four fatal accidents on Co Limerick roads in the whole of 2005, and the same amount of fatalities have occurred so far this year in 2016," Sgt McCarthy said.

He appealed for witnesses to contact Newcastle West Garda Station on 069-20650; The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111; or any Garda Station.

Meanwhile, Gardai have also appealed for information about a serious road collision near Bruff, which also occurred last Saturday around 5.30pm.

A man in his 20s was critically injured when his car was in a collision with another vehicle driven by a young woman.

The man's car left the road and crashed through a wall before dropping several feet down an embankment into a field.

The man is being treated at Cork University Hospital where his family are keeping a vigil.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Bruff garda station on 061-382940.
