A Lucan man who stabbed his landlord has been given a three-and-a-half-year suspended sentence following the assault at his home in September 2006.

Kevin Fell (aged 35) of Dodsboro Road produced a knife during the incident which took place at his then home in Brookhaven Drive, Blanchardstown during the early hours of the morning on September 29, 2006.

Fell, who was intoxicated at the time, began the altercation with his landlord who had come down the stairs of the house to request that Fell and his friend keep the noise down. During the altercation, Mr Fell produced a knife and cut his landlord, inflicting minor injuries.

A co-accused Kevin Williams (aged 36), also of Dodsboro Road, took part in the assault and pleaded guilty last April on the first day of his trial.

Fell pleaded guilty and in sentencing, Judge Tony Hunt told him he was lucky that the injury to his landlord wasn’t more serious and that he was close to getting a custodial sentence.

Warning Fell to stay out of trouble for five years, Judge Hunt told him that even committing the most minor offence would result in the prison sentence of three and a half years.

Fell, a father of one has several previous convictions for minor public order offences and also has problems with alcohol.

Under terms of the sentence Fell must attend anger management counselling and a good behaviour workshop as well as paying €2,000 in compensation to the aggrieved party within 12 months

Judge Hunt acknowledged that Fell recognises he has a problem with drink and stressed he should take steps to address this issue.
