Ganley polls better than expected in early Euro tallies

Early tallies in the European elections show that Independent Marian Harkin is set to top the poll in the North West and Libertas leader Declan Ganley is polling better than expected.

Early tallies in the European elections show that Independent Marian Harkin is set to top the poll in the North West and Libertas leader Declan Ganley is polling better than expected.

Fine Gael's Jim Higgins is also polling well.

In the South there are reports of a resurgence for Fine Gael's Colm Burke.

Labour's Nessa Childers and Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness are performing best in the East.

Counting in the European elections will not get underway until tomorrow - however, early and provisional tallies will come in throughout the day.
