Almost 4,000 legal claims currently against the State
There are almost 4,000 legal claims currently being made against the State.
New figures show that that one-third of these relate to clinical negligence against hospitals and other healthcare providers.
The total value of these outstanding claims is believed to be about €285m, 60% of which relates to clinical claims.
Almost two-thirds of these complaints relate to obstetrics.
