Striker Paolo di Canio has signed a new one-year contract with Charlton despite reported interest from the Premiership and abroad.
Di Canio – 36 next month – was an instant hit with supporters last season, during which he made 31 Premiership and two cup outings, and he was the club’s join-third top scorer with five goals.
However, his role within the team as a creator was equally important and his 12 goal assists was the second-highest figure in the Premiership.
Charlton chief executive Peter Varney told the club’s official website, www.cafc.co.uk: “There have been a lot of erroneous stories that we had released Paolo.
“On the contrary, we are delighted he has signed a new contract.
“Paolo has agreed to stay with us despite a number of lucrative other offers, both in this country and abroad.”
