There are fears of significant job losses at the Galtee Meat factory in Cork today following the workers' rejection of a cost-cutting plan.
The plant's owners, Dairygold, wants to reduce payroll and bonus costs and implement new work practices as part of a rationalisation plan that has seen it lay off more than 1,000 workers in the past 18 months.
However, the 160 staff at the Mitchelstown factory have overwhelmingly rejected the move, prompting management to warn that the future of the plant is now under threat.
