Brady no match for dominant Duddy

Hard-punching John Duddy chalked up the twelfth win of his pro career overnight in Massachusetts thanks to an impressive first round knockout of Joseph Brady.

Hard-punching John Duddy chalked up the twelfth win of his pro career overnight in Massachusetts thanks to an impressive first round knockout of Joseph Brady.

The talented Derry middleweight was at his aggressive best from the bell.

An early straight right hand had Duddy's Albuquerque opponent shuddering in front of a 852-strong crowd in Mansfield, a town 30 miles south of Boston.

The 26-year-old, who trains at Mayo native Eddie McLoughlin's Irish Ropes gym in New York, then dropped Brady with a left cross combination.

Brady beat the referee's count but only seconds later, a Duddy left hook to the body landed Brady back on the canvas and the fight was over with just over a minute left in the first round.

It was the eleventh knockout of Duddy's two-year Stateside career and another step on the way to fighting for the New York State title later this year.

There is too the possibility of a date with reigning Irish middleweight champion Matthew Macklin.

Also on the Mansfield bill, Duddy's training partner and Queens neighbour James Moore rattled up his third pro win in the space of five weeks.

The 2001 World amateur bronze medallist, 27, clattered Dorchester's Hollister Elliott into submission, knocking him out in the third round of a six-round light middleweight contest.
