It’s an all First Division clash as Cork City Foras Co-op entertain Monaghan United at Turner’s Cross tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.

Cork must plan for the tie without Gavin Kavanagh, Shane Barrett and Eoghan Lougheed as they are all cup-tied.

And manager Tommy Dunne also has a number of injury concerns ahead of the game.

Stephen Mulcahy (groin) and Cathal Lordan (knee) are still sidelined, while Dunne also has doubts over Paul Deasy (knee) and Kieran Kenneally (groin).

Dunne said: “Monaghan are riding high in the league, so it will be a tough test for us.

“The FAI Cup, though, is a nice distraction away from the week to week league routine and always has a special interest for everybody involved.”

City midfielder George O’Callaghan is expecting a tough challenge tonight, but says he is hopeful that the Rebel Army can reclaim past Cup glory and ensure safe passage into the next round.

O’Callaghan said: “Anything can happen in the Cup and that’s why people love it so much.

“I know Monaghan are doing well this year but this is a game we really want to win. We want to prolong the season as much as we can, so it’s important we win it for the club, the players and everyone involved.

“It’s all about what happens on the day and which team is hungrier. Against Monaghan it’s going to be two equal enough teams and we’ll both be going at it from the very start.”
