Hatcher expected to play Gabrielle
Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher was thrilled when producers offered her the part of Susan Mayer because she was worried her sexy image would typecast her as ex-model Gabrielle Solis.
The former Bond girl thought she had more in common with Eva Longoria's role as steamy Gabrielle or Felicity Huffman's harassed mum Lynette Scavo, but was excited when they gave her the bigger challenge of insecure Susan.
She says: "I thought they'd see me as Gabrielle, the ex-model, but then they said: 'Oh, we're going to go Spanish with that.' So I thought, maybe I could be Lynette because I understand what it's like to be a harassed working mum.
"But, really, I just wanted to play Susan. It's not a type of role I've auditioned for, so I was so shocked they even let me try."
