British boxing's most successful trainer has blasted Lennox Lewis for his "totally stupid" preparations prior to his April defeat to Hasim Rahman in South Africa.
And Mickey Duff, who managed the careers of 19 world champions, says Lewis' emphatic defeat is a sign that his skills are beginning to fade.
"Going to South Africa just eight days before the fight was totally stupid, six weeks would not have been long enough," said Duff.
"But remember Lewis' age. Things aren't what they used to be. Even with all the preparation in the world you still wouldn't have seen, and will never see again, the old Lennox Lewis.
"When it's over, it's over - but Lewis has still been a lot better than most of the fighters he has fought."
Prior to the Rahman debacle, Duff heralded Lewis as one of the greatest champions since Muhammad Ali.
And while defeat dimmed his star somewhat, Duff, now 72, is still adamant that Lewis has enough left in the tank to summon up one more great performance and retain his crown.
He added: "I would be extremely surprised if Rahman does it again. He is a willing, tough guy but he does not have much else.
"Lewis is simply a better fighter, a more accomplished fighter. I think Lennox will win comfortably by a fairly boring points decision."
