ICMSA rejects €5000 CPO scheme deal

Plans to compensate farmers for compulsory land purchases have been dealt a blow this evening.

Plans to compensate farmers for compulsory land purchases have been dealt a blow this evening.

Farmers are being offered €5000 an acre for their property.

The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association is rejected the deal as ‘incomplete’, saying it lacks a code of practice.

ICMSA President Pat O’ Rourke says, under the terms, farmers would forfeit their rights.

"Farmers would be no longer able to negotiate for severance and disturbance," he said.

"This is a huge aspect because roadways will sever land."
