Pressure is growing on the US over its continued refusal to ratify the Kyoto Protocol to guard against climate change.

Pressure is growing on the US over its continued refusal to ratify the Kyoto Protocol to guard against climate change.

George Bush was still rejecting demands to sign the treaty today, but Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, speaking in Dublin, said he intended to further press the matter at the G8 summit.

Mr Martin said: "Obviously, accepting the validity of the science is the first step towards dealing with the issue.

"Of course, if you take a look at what's happening in a number of the American states, obviously steps are being taken."
