Farrell confirmed for 'Total Recall' role

Colin Farrell has been confirmed for the lead role in a remake of 'Total Recall'.

Farrell had been rumoured alongside Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender as a possibility for the role of Douglas Quaid - made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1990 movie - and has now been cast in the project, producer Neil Moritz has confirmed.

He said: "We're putting the final deal. We're doing the movie with Colin Farrell."

The original film tells the story of a construction worker who believes he's a secret agent, but the new version - directed by Len Wiseman - will be closer to the book it was based on - 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale' by Philip K. Dick.

He told Collider.com: "It's closer to the book, the big difference is we don't go to space. Instead of it being a spaceship that takes us to another planet, there's something that takes us from one side of the plane to another that's really interesting.

"It's a real world, a real future world, where the cities have just gotten so overcrowded that the cities are just built up, up, up, up."

The movie will begin shooting in Canada on May 15.

Farrell will be seen in a number of films this year including comedy 'Horrible Bosses' with Jennifer Aniston and a remake of 'Fright Night'.
