Foreign Minister Brian Cowen met with UN secretary-general Kofi Annan this afternoon to discuss Ireland’s new role as chair of the UN security council for the month of October.

The two men discussed the United States’ so-called "coalition against terrorism" and the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
